World Class Halibut,Lingcod and Rockfish are your target when you fish with Kingfisher Charters. The Halibut fishing near Sitka is consistently outstanding. All through the summer months, you can count on catching halibut which average 50-60 lb., with an occasional fish sometimes topping 300 pounds. Large halibut are common on Kingfisher boats with some fish over 100 lbs caught in a typical trip. Top quality gear is provided with a Shimano or Avet two speed reel and a 6' stand up style tuna rod with 80 lb. test spectra line the normal package. Unlike many areas in Alaska, the waters off Sitka don't have strong tidal currents to contend with. This enables us to enjoy halibut fishing Alaska style at any time with no more than 1lb of weight. We usually fish on anchor using chunk bait and circle hooks. The use of circle hooks aids in the catch and release of smaller fish while waiting for the larger fish which are sure to follow.

'07 season re-cap and predictions for '08:

The 2007 season created exciting memories for our guests, with some of the best king salmon and coho fishing in years. Halibut fishing was phenomenal with many over 100 pounds.  As in the previous season, king salmon fishing was outstanding in May and June with kings landed into September.  The silver run came in strong in July and continued for the remainder of the season.  The limits for the 2007 season were:

2 halibut per day (one of which not to exceed 32 inches)
1 king salmon per day, 4 per season
6 silver salmon per day
1 lingcod per day (catch and release only June 16 – August 15)
1 yelloweye rockfish per day, 2 per season
